We had fantastic results from the Crochet Doll workshops, a big congratulations to all those who took part. I’m also thrilled that they are all well on their way to being finished in time for Christmas!

My offering ended up looking rather a lot like my sister…

For those of you who want to have a go, or who need to finish, here is the basic pattern. Add hair and features as you want to!

Crochet Doll Workshop

Double knit yarn in 2 colours, A-skin tone, B-clothes colour

3mm hook

Yarn needle

Scissors

Stuffing

Abbreviations

dc                   double crochet

st                  stitch

ch                  chain

slst                  slip stitch

dec                  decrease

inc                   increase

rnd                  round

()                  the number of stitches you will now have

Section 1 –  Head and Body

In yarn colour A, ch 5, then slst into 1st ch to create a loop

rnd 1                                    dc 6 stitches into the center of the loop you’ve created

rnd 2                                    *dc2 into next st (this is an inc)* 6 times (12)

rnd 3                                    *inc 1, dc 1* 6 times (18)

rnd 4                                    * inc 1, dc 2* 6 times (24)

rnd 5                                    * inc 1, dc 3* 6 times (30)

rnd 6                                    * inc 1, dc 4* 6 times (36)

rnd 7-12                                    work even (this means dc 1 into each st) (36)

rnd 13                                    *dec 1, dc 4* 6 times (30)

rnd 14                                    *dec 1, dc 3* 6 times (24)

rnd 15                                    *dec 1, dc 2* 6 times (18)

rnd 16                                    *dec 1, dc 1* 6 times (12)

This completes the head.

Stuff head

rnd 17                                    work even (12)

rnd 18                                    *inc 1, dc 5* 2 times (14)

change to yarn colour B

rnd 19                                    *inc 1, dc 6* 2 times (16)

rnd 20                                    *inc 1, dc 7* 2 times (18)

rnd 21                                    *inc 1, dc 8* 2 times (20)

rnd 22-32                  inc at the beginning and in the middle of each of these rnds as above until you have 42 st (42)

rnd 33-39                  work even

rnd 40                                    *dec 1, dc 5* 6 times (36)

rnd 41                                    *dec 1, dc 4* 6 times (30)

rnd 42                                    *dec 1, dc 3* 6 times (24)

rnd 43                                    *dec 1, dc 2* 6 times (18)

stuff body

rnd 44                                    *dec 1, dc 1* 6 times (12)

rnd 45                                    *dec 1* 6 times (6)

break thread and pull through to finish. Use end of yarn to sew up the hole, weave in ends.

Arm, make 2

In yarn colour A, ch 5, slst into 1st ch to create a loop

rnd 1                                    dc 6 st into centre of loop

rnd 2                                    *inc 1* 6 times (12)

rnd 3                                    *inc 1, dc 1* 6 times (18)

rnd 4-5                                    work even

rnd 6                                    *dec 1, dc 1* 6 times (12)

this completes the hand

rnd 7-22                                    work even

change colour wherever you want the sleeve to start from.

break thread leaving a long tail and pull through.

Stuff

Use long tail to sew the top of arm closed. Weave in ends. Sew arm to body

Legs (Make 2)

In yarn colour B, ch 5, then slst into 1st ch to create a loop

rnd 1                                    dc 6 stitches into the center of the loop you’ve created

rnd 2                                    *dc2 into next st (this is an inc)* 6 times (12)

rnd 3                                    *inc 1, dc 1* 6 times (18)

change to yarn colour A

rnd 13 – 30                  work even

break thread leaving a long tail and pull through.
